Network testing firm Ookla has released its latest Speedtest Global Index for December 2021, noting that the Philippines’ rank has raised one position for mobile download speeds and nine spots in fixed broadband speeds.
The Philippines is now at rank 89 globally for Mobile, recording an average download speed of 19.20 Mbps. The mobile upload speed was posted at 5.60 Mbps, while 24 ms is the average latency. Compared to the November 2021 ranking of 90th that listed an average download of 18.68 Mbps, 5.64 Mbps for upload, and latency of 24ms, only the download speed has improved.
For the Fixed Broadband, the country is now at 63rd, posting an average of 50.26 Mbps download speeds. The average upload speed and latency were registered at 44.06 Mbps and 6 ms, respectively. Compared to the previous month’s ranking of 72nd that recorded an average download of 46.44 Mbps, 38.14 Mbps for upload, and latency of 6ms, both download and upload speed have significantly increased.
The United Arab Emirates continually dominated the mobile internet ranking worldwide, having an average speed of 138.38 Mbps. Meanwhile, Singapore placed first in fixed broadband, with an average of 192.17 Mbps download speeds.
The Speedtest platform by Ookla compares results on internet speed worldwide, based on millions of tests conducted monthly using the service.
Additionally, it considers at least 300 unique mobile or fixed broadband user results to be ranked in either department, leveraging a vast testing infrastructure with over 10k servers in more than 190 countries.
