'Counter-Strike 2' now live, free to play on PC via Steam

Counter-Strike 2, the much-awaited upgrade for CS:GO, has finally been released by Valve and is now available to play on PC via Steam for free.

Also known as CS2, Counter-Strike 2 has received significant updates, including improved smoke grenades, redesigned maps, and enhanced network features.

Meanwhile, for those who have played Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) before, all progress and cosmetics transfer to CS2, so nothing is lost.

According to Valve, Counter-Strike 2 is built on the Source 2 engine and is modernized with realistic physically-based rendering, state-of-the-art networking, and upgraded Community Workshop tools, among others. You can watch the CS2 launch trailer below.


You can download the CS2 for free from Steam. The tactical first-person shooter game has a file size of 33GB, but it can increase as updates and patches continue to roll out.

"If you're a returning player you'll find your favorite maps and matchmaking modes right where you left them, along with a revamped Premier mode where you can establish your all-new CS Rating. Rise through the ranks and see where you stand on global and regional leaderboards," said Valve.

"For new players, learn the basics with some offline training and jump into Casual and Deathmatch to hone your skills. Once you've unlocked Competitive matchmaking you'll be off to the races," added Valve.

To recall, the original Counter-Strike (CS) is extremely popular in the Philippines. It has become one of the most played PC games in internet cafes or computer shops.
