Microsoft has released the first preview of its highly-anticipated Android apps support in Windows 11. It’s available to testers in the Windows 11 Beta Channel, which means you’ll need to join the Windows Insider program to try it out. Only beta testers with Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm processors are eligible to try Android apps on Windows 11.
With the collaboration between Microsoft and Amazon, the Microsoft Store will list apps but will direct you to Amazon’s Appstore to install or update the Android apps. This also automatically installs a Windows Subsystem for Android, the core technology that enables Android apps to run on Windows 11.
Like any other desktop app, Android apps will run in a window and be used concurrently with other Windows programs. Additionally, apps can be pinned to the start menu or taskbar.
As of the moment, only 50 Android apps are officially available in the preview. Some of the apps are Lords Mobile, June’s Journey, and Coin Master. Additionally, reading applications such as Kindle are now available for testing in the Windows Subsystem for Android program.
What are the Requirements to Run Android Apps in Windows 11?
Here are the requirements to test the Android Apps in Windows 11.
- Windows Insider Beta channel (go to Settings->Windows Update->Windows Insider)
- OS Build 22000.282 or higher (press Windows button+R key to open the Run dialog box and enter ‘winver’)
- Virtualization enabled (launch the Task Manager and navigate to the Performance tab; if it’s not enabled, you may refer to your BIOS manufacturer’s manual)
- Set to US region (go to Settings->Time & Language-> Region & language)
- US-based Amazon account
- Windows Subsystem for Android (search it in the Microsoft Store)
Since the preview is still in the testing phase, you might experience apps locking up or failing to open.
