Twitch hacked, list of creator payouts leaked
Live streaming service Twitch has confirmed that their platform has been hacked, and they are working out the details to understand the extent of the breach.
Shortly after this announcement, the US-based company released an update, saying that “some data was exposed to the internet due to an error in a Twitch server configuration change.” Due to this, the platform was accessed by a malicious third party.
Twitch also added that they are still in the process of understanding the impact in detail.
Meanwhile, the live streaming service mentioned that there is no evidence that login credentials have been compromised. However, they are still doing additional investigations.
Moreover, full credit card numbers were not exposed as Twitch did not store them.
According to Video Games Chronicle, the massive Twitch leak was revealed by an anonymous user from the messaging board website 4chan. The user released a 125GB torrent claiming that it includes the entirety of Twitch.
The data leak includes the following:
  • Three years’ worth of data on Twitch creator earnings.
  • The entirety of twitch.tv platform, “with commit history going back to its early beginnings.”
  • Source code of Twitch clients for the mobile, desktop, and video game consoles.
  • Code related to proprietary SDKs and internal AWS services utilized by Twitch.
  • An unpublished Steam competitor from Amazon Game Studios.
  • Data on other Twitch properties, such as IGDB and CurseForge.
  • Internal security tools used by Twitch.
According to the individual claiming responsibility for the breach, the hack was aimed to “foster more disruption and competition in the online video streaming space” due to Twitch’s community being “a disgusting toxic cesspool.”
Using the leaked data, a Twitter user posted the list of highest-paid Twitch creators, including popular streamers such as Imane “Pokimane” Anys and Félix “xQc” Lengyel. The vast majority of whom have reportedly earned over USD 1 million in Twitch revenue over the last 26 months.
