Battle royale shooter PUBG Mobile has announced a collaboration with the iconic mecha anime series Evangelion, bringing a new limited-time game mode in the Version 2.0 Update. It pits players against the series’ fearsome Angel.
Core Circle is a new game mode available in Livik and Erangel. In Erangel, between May 19 and June 30, 2022, players can watch EVA-01’s battle against Evangelion’s 6th Angel during a special event.
At the beginning of each match, players will start in a special, shrunken Blue Zone as they watch the sixth Angel appear on Spawn Island and fire a powerful laser. Follow the action by locating EVA-01’s spawn point on the minimap and observing Angel’s path of destruction.
In order to defend the island, the fortresses will open fire on the Angel until it retaliates with equal force. After fortresses have been destroyed, players can rummage through the wreckage for better supplies and alter the fortress walls to suit their own combat strategies.
In this mode, more supply crates are scattered across the battlefield, including those containing more valuable resources beneath the surface. Players can toss Blue Zone grenades to create a mini Blue Zone, which depletes Health, and there will be a limited-time Respawn period near the beginning of the match, during which fallen teammates can reappear with their weapons.
From May 14 to June 19, players will be able to obtain various new exclusive Evangelion collaboration items, ranging from iconic character plugsuits to themed armor, parachutes, and backpacks. A special buddy will also be introduced for players to team up with.
This partnership brings the imposing imagery and content of the cult-classic Evangelion anime to PUBG Mobile’s iconic battlegrounds for a one-of-a-kind gaming experience. Some of the previous collabs of the battle royale shooter game include Jujutsu Kaisen and Arcane.
An additional exclusive themed EVA Discovery event also launches in-game starting tomorrow until June 19, in which players can play matches in Classic Mode to gain Exploration Progress, with an extra progress bonus available from Core Circle gameplay after May 19. Progress can be redeemed for limited-time Evangelion-themed rewards, and a discount will be applied when upgrading certain collaboration items into permanent items.
For those unaware, Evangelion is a Japanese mecha anime TV series produced by Gainax and directed by Hideaki Anno. The anime series has a total of 26 episodes. It was initially broadcasted in Japan in 1995. Four movies were released in Japan coming after that. Meanwhile, Neon Genesis Evangelion was first aired in the Philippines in 1996 on the ABC 5 network (now TV5).
PUBG Mobile 2.0 Update is available now. You can download the battle royale shooter for free on the App Store and Google Play Store.
