Globe 'Climate Champions' mobile game launches on GlobeOne, GCash

Globe Telecom has launched its new mobile game, Climate Champions, on GlobeOne, GCash, and KonsultaMD apps.

According to Globe, the mobile game aims to encourage its customers to make sustainable choices in their consumption of goods and services. As a leader in sustainability and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, the telco continues to push for climate education and action. Through the Globe Climate Champions mobile game, the telco utilizes gaming as a platform to promote climate action.

The mobile running game, Globe Climate Champions, equips Filipinos with how to lessen their carbon footprint through their regular activities. It pushes players to reach the finish line as quickly as possible, with the possibility of gaining speed boosts by collecting rubbish along the way.

Players can further reduce their run time by selecting eco-friendly answers on the lifestyle quiz at the conclusion of every round. They will also discover trivia about how to care for the environment more effectively. More rounds played will unlock prizes that encourage individuals to adopt a greener lifestyle by converting to digital transactions.

The launch of Climate Champions is a component of the Globe's dedication to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), notably SDG 13 on Climate Action, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Principles, the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) Business Ambition for 1.5 degrees Celsius, and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Race to Zero campaign. In addition to being an early participant in the Race to Zero campaign, which drives its Net Zero objectives, the Globe Group is also committed to achieving Net Zero.

Yoly Crisanto, Globe Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer, said that "responding to the risks and effects of climate change is a shared responsibility. This game [Climate Champions] aims to raise awareness on what actions contribute to caring for the environment."

On the other hand, Globe guarantees that gaming becomes meaningful as esports continues to flourish in the Philippines by pairing games and players with relevant causes to promote.

Ralph Aligada, Head of Globe Gamers and Esports, said that they've "always believed that gaming in the Philippines goes beyond gameplay. Globe Climate Champions empowers Filipinos to live sustainably by breaking down the long-term aspiration into short-term actions, all through a gamified experience that encourages conscious daily life changes."

The New GlobeOne, GCash, and KonsultMD applications provide access to the new Globe Climate Champions mobile game. June Mar Fajardo and Kuya Kim Atienza, brand ambassadors for Team Globe of Good, are among the first to invite the public to play the Globe Climate Champions smartphone game.

Encouraging the community to commit to sustainability
Globe is launching a nationwide search for Globe Kali 'Kada in conjunction with the introduction of the Globe Climate Champions to identify citizens who promote sustainable practices.

RG Orense, Globe Digital and Social Channel Strategy Head, said that as they launch their nationwide search for Kali 'Kada, they are "sending the message that anyone with a true heart for the environment can be a champion for change." Also, they're "excited to help uncover a new breed of changemakers who will inspire others to commit to a more sustainable lifestyle."

Globe has implemented over 8,500 Green Network Solutions around the country to minimize its operational emissions and has converted 14 critical facilities to renewable energy through Retail Electricity Supply Agreements (RESA) with renewable energy suppliers. Additionally, it invests in climate technology solutions to provide its employees and clients with innovations that can assist them in contributing to climate action.

Crisanto added that as they continue to operationalize their climate action strategies and "aggressively move" towards their goal of Net Zero by 2050, they encourage their customers "to contribute to caring for the environment in their own way." As part of their commitment to uplift Filipino lives, "the Globe Group has committed to operate responsibly and help make the Philippines a livable and sustainable nation for generations to come."
