Internet speed monitoring firm Ookla has issued its Speedtest Global Index for August 2022, indicating that the Philippines' internet rank has moved three spots up in Mobile and increased two positions in Fixed Broadband.
The country ranked 82nd globally in the Mobile category, recording a median download speed of 22.35 Mbps. The mobile upload speed was listed at 5.69 Mbps, and the average latency was 23 ms. This record shows a very slight drop compared to the results in July, which saw download speeds of 22.56 Mbps and upload speeds of 5.79 Mbps.
In the Fixed Broadband category, the Philippines ranked 45th, posting an average of 78.33 Mbps download speeds. The average upload speed and latency were recorded at 75.82 Mbps and 6 ms, respectively. Compared to the previous month's results, which logged an average download of 75.62 Mbps, 72.74 Mbps for upload, and latency of 6 ms, both download and upload speeds have notably increased.
In terms of global median speeds, the average download speed for mobile is 30.79 Mbps, while fixed broadband is 69.14 Mbps.
Norway ranked first in the mobile internet speed charts worldwide, recording an average speed of 122.77 Mbps. Singapore placed first in the fixed broadband category, with an average of 219.01 Mbps download speeds.
The Speedtest Global Index for August 2022 includes 140 countries for Mobile and 182 for Fixed Broadband.
Ookla noted that Speedtest Global Index rankings are based on median download speed to best reflect the internet speeds a user is likely to achieve in a market.
