Sibol Dota 2 bags silver in IESF world championships 2022

Philippines' Sibol Dota 2 squad took home the silver medal after losing to the host team, Indonesia, 2-3, in the grand final of the International Esports Federation World Esports Championship 2022 (IESF WEC 2022) on December 10.

The Sibol Dota 2 lineup for IESF 2022 is composed of Charles Lewis "Lewis" Delos Santos, James Erice "Erice" Guerra, Joel "jwl" Pagkatotohan, Jomari "Grimzx" Anis, and Eljohn "Akashi" Andales.

Sibol Dota 2 immediately has a default 1-0 lead as the upper-bracket winner. The Filipino team, however, was unable to capitalize as the Indonesians, led by stars Matthew "Whitemon" Filemon and Rafli "Mikoto" Rahman, quickly leveled the series at 1 apiece.

The Pinoy Dota 2 team was one win away from securing the gold after winning Game Three, but they wasted their advantage by dropping the next two games to hand Indonesia the gold.

The Filipino team put on an impressive campaign to land in 2nd place in the international Dota 2 tournament, composed of 29 teams. They secured a spot in the playoffs by finishing second in Group B with a 4-1 record, ahead of Uzbekistan, Australia, and Thailand in the play-ins stage. Sibol advanced to the finals by defeating Kazakhstan, Indonesia, and Laos in the playoffs.

With their silver finish, Sibol Dota 2 team bagged USD 30,000 or PHP 1.6 million as a consolation prize.

Meanwhile, the gold medalist team, Indonesia, took home the lion's share of USD 50,000 or PHP 2.7 million.
