Globe registers over 11M SIMs, reminds users of Apr 26 deadline

Globe reported registering over 11 million active prepaid SIM cards approximately one month after the law requiring all Filipinos to register their SIM cards went into effect.

Globe surpassed 11 million prepaid SIM registrants on Monday, January 30, 2023, roughly one month after the SIM Registration Act was enacted to combat cybercrime, including the proliferation of scam messages made possible by the anonymity of prepaid SIMs.

Globe Telecom said:
We are grateful to our customers for promptly registering their SIMs. We understand the importance of addressing the proliferation of scam and spam messages and have made it our priority to provide our customers with a seamless registration process. We are committed to meeting the deadline and continuing our efforts to protect our customers from scammers and fraudsters.

Globe encourages its unregistered customers to visit its user-friendly registration portal (https://ift.tt/NdeimfF). There are approximately 87.4 million SIM users currently on the Globe network.

In February 2023, customers will be able to register their SIMs via the GlobeOne app as an additional registration channel.

From January 25 to 27, Globe supported government-led assisted registration in priority sites nationwide. Globe established booths in 15 locations and provided assistance to anyone in need, including senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and users of basic/feature phones.

Globe has also begun rolling out its own on-site assistance booths across the country, in addition to supporting the NTC-led assisted SIM registration. From January 27 to 29, 30 Puregold branches in strategic locations in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao provided assistance with SIM card registration. It will soon extend SIM support to additional locations.

These initiatives aim to provide all possible avenues for registering customers by the April 26, 2023 deadline. SIMs will be deactivated for users who do not complete their registration within the specified time frame.

Even before the new law was enacted, Globe took a number of measures to limit disruptive messages, including proactive blocking, threat intelligence partnerships with financial institutions, a customer reporting portal, and an education and awareness campaign to help customers protect themselves.
