League of Legends Season 2023: new champs, skins, Ranked

Riot Games has announced the start of Season 2023 for League of Legends and LoL Esports with a video showcasing what's to come in the world's most popular MOBA. The event serves as the official start of the League of Legends Ranked and tournament seasons for both casual and professional players, as well as an opportunity to inform players of upcoming content. The League of Legends development team discussed the Ahri ASU (Art and Sustainability Update), the Aurelion Sol CGU (Comprehensive Gameplay Update), the Mid-Year Ranked Reset, the Champion Roadmap for 2023, and more. In addition, LoL Esports had previously announced a brand-new competitive event, Season Kickoff, to commemorate the January 10 start of Season 2023.

LoL Champions in 2023

  • The ASU of Ahri is almost here. Expect updates on her base, skins, VFX, splashes, and each of her nine tails.
  • Players can anticipate additional mid-scope updates to revitalize older champions' gameplay fantasies and modernize the roster as a whole.
  • In his upcoming CGU, Aurelion Sol mains can anticipate a complete overhaul of the Star Forger's ability set.
  • The LoL's Champions team continues to invest in the creation of a champion pool inclusive of all cultures, genders, and in-game skill levels for all roles. Milio, a male enchanter from Ixtal, and Naafiri, a female midlane Darkin assassin, will join the roster in 2023.

LoL skins in 2023

LoL Ranked in 2023

Starting this year, the 2 Ranked Splits will have a Ranked Reset in between, with rewards to match, in an effort to bring LoL in line with modern-day expectations and alleviate the stress of avoiding decay or demotion in the middle of the year.

LoL Ranked 2023 timeline

  • Ranked Reset: When Split 2 of the Ranked season starts, the reset will not be as heavy as the one in January, given that the game won't change dramatically enough to warrant making players re-earn their rank to the same extent. The Mid-Year Reset will also be even less significant if a player has not played many games since January.
  • Rewards: Players can now earn full ranked rewards each Ranked Split, including icons & emotes, Ranked borders, and a Ranked skin. This means there will be two skins for Ranked this year, as well as some extra rewards for the climb.
    • In addition to this, players will no longer have to reach the Gold rank requirement to earn a Ranked skin and can, instead, earn it based on a rank-dependent number of Ranked games played.
    • Chromas will still be granted based on your final rank at the end of the Split.

2023 Season Kickoff Event

From January 10 to 11, the LCS, LEC, LCK, LPL, LJL, CBLOL, LLA, PCS, and VCS will host a special two-day broadcasted event previewing the 2023 season and highlighting the professional players to watch this year, giving fans a first look at Season 2023, and a peek at what's in store for LoL Esports in 2023.

All pro teams in each of the 9 leagues will send players to compete in the Kickoff event. It's up to each region to determine how teams are drafted, so you might see different methods in the LCS (League Championship Series) versus the PCS (Pacific Championship Series). The games will be best-of-3's on Summoner's Rift with no champion bans or repeats. Each of the pro teams represented on the winning team will be able to create an emote with Riot's designers to be added to League of Legends.

The Kickoff event in 2023 will replace the League of Legends All-Star Event. While All-Stars has provided fans and players with numerous memorable moments throughout the years, the current schedule can be difficult for many All-Star players. The replacement of All-Stars with the Season Kickoff event provides a well-deserved break for professional players and an exciting new platform for fans that will supplement the end-of-year local competitions and celebrations that regions typically host during this time.
