Counter-Strike 2, a sequel to CS:GO, to release Summer 2023

Valve has officially announced a sequel to Global Offensive (CS:GO), titled Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), which is slated for a Summer 2023 release. It will be free to play.

According to Counter-Strike 2's website (https://ift.tt/AVq8XRe), it is "the largest technical leap forward in Counter-Strike's history," promising years of updates and new features.

In a tweet, CS2 said that the upcoming free-to-play online first-person shooter is "an overhaul to every system, every piece of content, and every part of the C-S experience."

Valve will introduce major changes coming to Counter-Strike 2, including:
  • Tick-less servers
  • Cleaner, brighter, better maps
  • Responsive smokes

Tick-less servers

Due to Counter-Strike 2's sub-tick update architecture, this will let "servers know the exact instant that motion starts, a shot is fired, or a 'nade is thrown."

Now, regardless of tick rate, a player's moving and shooting will be equally responsive, and their grenades will always land the same way.

Cleaner, brighter, better maps

CS2 will have revamped maps, enhanced visuals, UI improvements, reworked audio, and more.

According to Valve, Counter-Strike 2 will receive "upgrades and overhauls which leverage all of the new Source 2 [game engine] tools and rendering features."

Responsive smokes

Smoke Grenades in CS2 will be "dynamic volumetric objects," as per Valve. They can "interact with the environment and react to lighting, gunfire, and explosions."

The game company said it's starting a "limited test" and that players will be selected to join it based on several factors like "recent playtime on Valve official servers, trust factor, and Steam account standing." If you're one of the selected, you will get a notification in the CS:GO main menu that will allow you to enroll.

For those unaware, the original Counter-Strike is very popular in the Philippines. It is one of the most-played PC games in internet cafes (or computer shops).
