PLDT, Smart face slow internet due to submarine cable issue

PLDT and Smart said that an issue on one of their submarine cable partners was causing slower internet browsing on June 5, 2023.

The telcos announced this network advisory through their respective social media pages.

"One of our submarine cable partners confirms a loss in some of its internet bandwidth capacity, and thus causing slower internet browsing." read the advisory.

Downdetector, a website that monitors service outages, received a spike in reports from subscribers of PLDT having problems with their internet at 3:20 PM, where 763 submitted reports indicating that PLDT is down.

Likewise, this internet connectivity issue of PLDT affected access to other websites and mobile apps, such as Google, YouTube, Gmail, and Facebook.

A temporary workaround to fix the slow internet is to change your DNS. See how to use DNS on Android.

PLDT added in their advisory that they are working to solve the problem.

"We are working with our partners to provide alternate capacity that would restore the browsing experience in the next few hours," said PLDT.
