PH mobile download speed at 28.12 Mbps: Ookla Dec 2023

The Speedtest Global Index report for December 2023 has been released by Ookla, indicating that the Philippines' internet rank has moved one spot down in Fixed Broadband and decreased two positions in Mobile.

The country ranked 49th globally in the Fixed Broadband category, recording an average median download speed of 92.92 Mbps. The average upload speed was listed at 93.34 Mbps, and the average latency was 6 ms.

In the Mobile category, the Philippines ranked 86th, registering an average download speed of 28.12 Mbps. The average upload speed and latency were registered at 6.89 Mbps and 22 ms, respectively.

Compared to the November 2023 charts, the performance of the internet in the country saw a slight improvement in either Mobile or Fixed Broadband.

Philippines ranks 86th in mobile and 49th in fixed broadband, according to the December 2023 data of the Ookla Speedtest Global Index.

Regarding global median speeds, the average download speed for Fixed Broadband is 90.93 Mbps, while the average for Mobile is 49.25 Mbps.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) registered the fastest mobile internet speed in the world, with an average download speed of 303.21 Mbps. On the other hand, Singapore emerged as the clear leader in the fixed broadband category, recording an impressive average download speed of 270.62 Mbps.

The Speedtest Global Index for December 2023 includes 146 countries for Mobile and 178 for Fixed Broadband.

It is worth noting that Ookla's Speedtest Global Index calculates the median download speed to provide a more accurate representation of achievable internet speeds. To be listed in the mobile or fixed broadband category, a location must have at least 300 unique user results.

Meanwhile, Ookla once again recognized Smart as the fastest mobile operator in the Philippines during Q4 of 2023. Smart earned the fastest median download speed at 37.64 Mbps. Globe came in second place at 26.44 Mbps. DITO ranked third at 19.74 Mbps.

In terms of median download speeds for major cell phone manufacturers, Apple devices remained the fastest at 51.19 Mbps, followed by Samsung at 37.76 Mbps and Xiaomi at 30.66 Mbps. Completing the top 5 are Huawei (19.98 Mbps) and Infinix (18.90 Mbps).
