The Speedtest Global Index report for March 2024 has been released by Ookla, indicating that the Philippines' internet rank has moved two spots down in Mobile and remained the same in Fixed Broadband.
The country ranked 52nd globally in the Fixed Broadband category, recording an average median download speed of 93.91 Mbps. The average upload speed was posted at 93.54 Mbps, and the average latency was 6 ms.
In the Mobile category, the Philippines ranked 84th, registering an average download speed of 30.90 Mbps. The average upload speed and latency were recorded at 7.05 Mbps and 22 ms, respectively.
Compared to the February 2024 charts, the internet performance in the country saw a slight boost in mobile download speeds while no improvement in fixed broadband speeds.
Regarding global median speeds, the average download speed for Fixed Broadband is 93.28 Mbps, while the average for Mobile is 52.98 Mbps.
Qatar recorded the fastest mobile internet speed in the world, with an average download speed of 313.30 Mbps. Meanwhile, Singapore ranked first in the fixed broadband category consistently, recording an average download speed of 284.13 Mbps.
The Speedtest Global Index for March 2024 includes 148 countries for Mobile and 182 for Fixed Broadband.
It's important to note that Ookla's Speedtest Global Index utilizes the median download speed to provide a better idea of the actual internet speeds that can be achieved. To be included in either the fixed broadband or mobile category, a location must have at least 300 unique user results.
On the other hand, Ookla has analyzed how the Samsung Galaxy S24 series measures up against its predecessors in terms of 5G speed and latency during its first several weeks on the market. The data collected was from February 1 to March 24, 2024.
Some high-level takeaways include:
- Samsung Galaxy S24 users in the Philippines might have noticed a modest improvement to their 5G speeds compared to those on older S23 and S22 models since they upgraded, as the Galaxy S24 series's median 5G download speed of 157.38 Mbps was about 20 Mbps faster than that of Galaxy S22's (137.68 Mbps) and a little over 15 Mbps faster than the Galaxy S23 family (140.06 Mbps).
- The iPhone 15 series's median 5G download speed of 120.04 Mbps trailed all three Samsung Galaxy families in the market.
Here's the bottom line. For users in the Philippines seeking the fastest possible 5G experience, upgrading to an S24 device is worth considering. However, it's worth noting that the differences in speed between devices were not as significant as in some other countries, and upgrading likely isn't for everyone just yet.
