Globe logged 1,610 petabytes of data traffic in Q1 2024

In Q1 2024, Globe Telecom logged 1,610 petabytes (PB) of mobile data traffic, a 19% rise from the same period last year, when it recorded 1,352 PB.

According to Globe, the average monthly mobile data consumption per user has also experienced a significant increase, increasing by 24% to 15.6 GB. This increase is a reflection of the increasing reliance and engagement of consumers with mobile data, as digital content consumption and online activities continue to increase.

This resulted in a 10% increase in Globe's mobile data revenues during the first three months of the year, totaling Php 23.8 billion, compared to Php 21.7 billion during the same period last year.

Globe stated that the pervasive adoption of smartphones and the increasing popularity of data-intensive applications are the primary factors driving this substantial growth.

Darius Delgado, Head of Globe Consumer Mobile Business, said:
Our commitment to enhancing our network capabilities and expanding our services to meet the evolving needs of our customers is evident in these results. As mobile data becomes a more predominant part of our revenue stream, we are more determined than ever to invest in state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure to provide our customers with an unparalleled digital experience.

Mobile data usage has increased exponentially as digital platforms become more deeply ingrained in the daily lives of consumers. Mobile data now comprises 82% of Globe's total mobile revenues, a rise from 80% in the previous year.

Meanwhile, traditional mobile services, including voice and SMS, have experienced minor declines of 2% and 3% year-over-year, respectively, resulting in revenues of Php 3.4 billion and Php 1.9 billion. This change emphasizes a more general trend in consumer preference for data-driven communication over traditional voice calls and text messaging.

The strong, persistent demand for mobile internet services among Filipinos was demonstrated by the fact that mobile data revenues remained stable on a sequential basis in comparison to the fourth quarter of 2023, which is typically a peak period for data consumption due to the holiday season.

Globe remains committed to supporting the digital lifestyle of Filipinos, who are increasingly relying on mobile solutions for their communication, entertainment, and online shopping needs. The telco continues to prioritize the enhancement of its mobile data services and the preservation of its market leadership amid intense competition.
