League of Legends (LoL) developer Riot Games announced that a new Asia-Pacific (APAC) league is slated for launch in 2025. Check out more details below.
As the VCS (Vietnam Championship Series), PCS (Pacific Championship Series), LJL (League of Legends Japan League), and LCO (League of Legends Circuit Oceania) approach the Playoffs, enthusiasm and tension rise. Teams have always fought for a LoL Worlds spot. This year, they are also contending for a berth in the 2025 APAC league, raising the stakes.
Fans will get to see more intense matches as higher stakes are added to make the competition tougher and stay true to League of Legends' commitment to reward competitive merit. This will be LoL's foundation for more dynamic and diversified competition as it explores ways to expand its APAC ecosystem to include the new League.
Partner and Guest Slots Breakdown
This is the breakdown of the 8 slots between both partner and guest teams, as Riot Games announced last month that the new league would adopt a hybrid partnership plus promotion/relegation model.
4 Partner Slots
We have kicked off the selection of Partner teams. This will follow a stringent process in selecting teams that will become a mainstay of the new APAC league. These partnerships will set the standard for competitive strength and sustainability, while their commitment and alignment with our goals will also be invaluable to our efforts in growing LoL Esports in our region.
4 Guest Slots
2 Competitive Merit Guest Slots - The highest-placed team in the 2024 PCS and VCS Playoffs outside of Partner teams will secure their spot in the new league next year. This underscores the importance of the 2024 Summer Playoffs, making every match crucial and heightening the competitive spirit.2 Invited Guest Slots - We are inviting two additional Guest teams to complete the league, ensuring diverse representation and fostering a more inclusive and competitive environment. We aim to showcase as many talents from different regions, contributing to the overall growth and excitement of the league.
During the promotion/relegation tournament at the conclusion of the 2025 season, guest slots will be available for competition.
