Globe expands LTE, 5G with new 32T32R Massive MIMO tech

Globe announced that it started rolling out the new 32T32R Massive MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) technology for enhanced LTE capacity and 5G network expansion in 200 dense urban areas across the country, set for completion in 2024.

In a statement, Globe said the deployment of this new tech, the 32T32R Massive MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output), is to advance "network innovation and sustainability."

Globe's dedication to enhancing network capacity and providing world-class service while mitigating its environmental impact is underscored by the innovative solutions from vendor partners, including Nokia, which enhances efficiency and decreases energy consumption.

Joel Agustin, Globe Head of Service Planning and Engineering, said:
We are constantly innovating to build a more sustainable and efficient telecom infrastructure across the Philippines. The 32T32R Massive MIMO deployment allows us to provide high-quality LTE and 5G services with significantly lower energy consumption and a reduced carbon footprint. It demonstrates how we can combine advanced technology with sustainability.

According to Globe, the 32T32R Massive MIMO system achieves a balance between sustainability and performance by utilizing fewer antennas and reducing power consumption. It is an optimal solution for the expansion of LTE and 5G networks in urban areas and provides ample capacity to meet the majority of the telco's requirements.

Moreover, the system's beamforming and multi-user MIMO capabilities enable it to transmit signals to numerous users simultaneously, thereby enhancing network capacity and quality while preserving energy efficiency. It is anticipated that each 32T32R site will reduce carbon emissions by 1.7 metric tons annually, resulting in an estimated monthly energy savings of approximately 200 kWh.

Further, the technology's smaller form factor and lighter weight—21 kilograms lighter and 24 liters smaller than previous models—enable simpler and faster installation.
