Genshin Impact developer miHoYo has announced that beta sign-ups for their new Space RPG “Honkai: Star Rail” are now open. The closed beta test (CBT) registration started on October 8. The Chinese game developer also confirmed that Honkai Star Rail will be available for both mobile and PC, supporting cross-platform gameplay.
The Honkai: Star Rail is set in the same universe as the popular mobile RPG Honkai Impact 3rd, which takes place in an apocalyptic world where superpowered girls, known as “Valkyries,” must face an evil entity that spawns monsters and natural disasters.
Honkai Impact 3rd is a third-person action game in which players use a variety of ability combinations to combat machine-like monsters. Moreover, it features gacha mechanics that allow players to roll for a chance to obtain characters and items using crystals, which could be purchased with real cash. In 2019, it got an official PC version.
The Honkai: Star Rail video trailer depicts a fantasy train rocketing away from a planet and into outer space. It also showed some characters fighting monsters in the style of robots. Moreover, the visuals and art style resemble Genshin more than Honkai.
The first impression on its teaser trailer seems to be that Honkai Star Rail is an action game with some tactical elements. However, a gameplay screenshot on the game’s official website shows that it supports up to four characters at a time and appears to be a turn-based RPG.
Eight characters have already been revealed on its website. They are as follows:
- Himeko
- Welt
- Danheng
- March 7th
- Gepard
- Seele
- Clara
- Asta
The Honkai: Star Rail was officially unveiled by miHoYo on October 5. However, there is no release date yet.
How to register for Honkai Star Rail CBT?
For those interested players who want to register for the game’s CBT, you can find the sign-up link here. Beta testers will be randomly chosen, and all saved data will be wiped out following the test.
miHoYo also released an event called “first closed beta eligibility,” where players can comment their miHoYo Account ID in the designated post and have a chance to participate in the CBT. The event runs from October 8 to 21. There will be 15 players to be selected.
There is no confirmed end date for the closed beta sign-ups at the moment.
