OG Ceb underwent eye surgery, Team Liquid miCKe to stand-in
OG Esports has announced that their offlaner Sébastien “Ceb” Debs could miss the Dota 2 TI10 tournament as he recovers from emergency eye surgery. With this, the 2-time TI winner esports organization has tapped Team Liquid carry player Michael “miCKe” Vu to be their official stand-in for the event.
In a blog post, OG said that Ceb was recently diagnosed with an eye condition that “could permanently damage his eye” and affect his playing career if not addressed immediately. The Europe-based esports organization flew Ceb back to his hometown France to get treated, which went smoothly. He is now resting and recovering.
This announcement was confirmed by Ceb after posting a tweet, revealing that during a routine medical check-up, his doctor informed him that he was suffering from a retinal detachment in his left eye and was a few hours from losing his sight. The only option available to him was emergency surgery, which he chose to undergo immediately.
“This bad news felt like the sky collapsing on me, as you can imagine,” said Ceb.
“Ever since I have been fighting every day to try to gain ground on the pain and the fatigue, hoping my recovery process would still allow me to attend TI. Unfortunately, as of now, I still can’t know if I will be back in a playing shape in time,” he added.
OG prioritizes their players’ health and well-being, ensuring that Ceb is not at any risk before returning to work. With Ceb’s availability still uncertain, OG has decided to add Michael “Micke” Vu, from Team Liquid, as their official stand-in for TI.
“We are very thankful to Micke for stepping up immediately, and for joining us in Portugal the next day to start practicing with us.” said team OG.
OG made history by becoming the first team to win back-to-back TI championships in 2018 and 2019, with Ceb playing a critical role in those championship campaigns with his leadership and superb offlane play.
Dota 2 TI10 is scheduled to begin on October 7 until October 17. The tournament features 18 teams vying for the coveted Aegis of Champions and a share of the event’s prize pool of over USD 40 million.
Here’s the OG Esports roster currently:
  • Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan
  • Topias Miikka “Topson” Taavitsainen
  • Martin “Saksa” Sazdov
  • Johan “N0tail” Sundstein
  • Michael “Micke” Vu (Stand-in)
  • Sébastien “Ceb” Debs (Medical Leave)
The team’s head coach is Mikhail “Misha” Agatov. Meanwhile, the assistant coach is Titouan “Sockshka” Merloz.
