Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines has released a statement regarding the match between Smart Omega and Nexplay EVOS during the last day of the MPLH PH Season 8 last October 10, with both teams facing penalties, including a fine amounting to roughly PHP 150,000.
According to MPL PH, Smart Omega and Nexplay EVOS have violated the “competitive integrity” of the league. This developed after both teams played Game 1 and Game 2, which seemingly let them throw one set after the other.
Both Smart Omega and Nexplay EVOS were fined USD 3,000 (around P150,000) for committing the following offenses for Competitive Integrity and Professional Manner, according to the MPL-PH S8 rulebook.
Moreover, those that participated in Games 1 and 2, which included a combination of starting and reserve players, are no longer eligible for MPL PH Season 8’s personal awards and will receive a serious warning.
These players are as follows:
Smart Omega
- Robert Remar “Hito” Candoy
- Dean Christian “Raizen” Sumagui
- Dian “Dian” Felix Cruz
- Romiere “Allidap” Padilla
- Billy Jazha “Z4pnu” Alfonso
Nexplay EVOS
- Tristan “YAWI” Cabrera
- Renejay
- Setsuna “Dogie” Ignacio
- John Paul “H2wo” Salonga
- Jeniel “YellyHaze”
Popular streamer Dogie will also be suspended for two games for striking a prohibited pose – after doing a cut-throat pose following their victory over Smart Omega. He was also handed a fine of USD 500 (approximately PHP 25,000).
The MPL PH reminded players and teams that they are subject to and accountable for the rulebook and guidelines.
“We want to reinforce that competitive integrity is one of our core values as a league.,” said MPL PH. “Any team or player is subject to the rulebook and guidelines as stipulated within, and they must take full ownership and accountability of what they’ve done.”
For the uninitiated, Both teams were accused of throwing Game 1 and Game 2 in a match dated October 10, as they made decisions such as using all flame-shots or apparently not attempting to kill minion waves destroying their own base in order to force a decisive match.
In Game 3, Both sides appeared to take a more serious attitude, which Nexplay won. Following the match, Dogie was seen flashing a cut-throat gesture.
This is not the first time this season that Smart Omega players have been penalized. Their teammate, Grant Duane “Kelra” Pillas, was suspended for two weeks prior to the season for making sexist remarks towards Blacklist International duo Johnmar “OhMyV33nus” Villaluna and Danerie “Wise” del Rosario.
