The hit Netflix thriller series Squid Game has spawned a slew of knockoffs on the gaming platform Roblox. The popular section of Roblox is overloaded with titles like “Squid Game” and “Red Light Green Light.”
Squid Game is a South Korean battle royale-inspired series on Netflix that was released on September 17, 2021. Since then, the gore show has become a viral sensation. It is presently the most-watched show on Netflix in the United States and is on track to become the streaming service’s most-watched show of all time globally.
The drama revolves around Seong Gi-hun, a man with a gambling problem who finds himself in significant debt. As a result, he is recruited to compete in a 456-person tournament in which players compete in deadly versions of popular children’s games such as “Red Light, Green Light,” and “Tug-of-war.” The victor of these bloodthirsty, battle royale-style contests will bag a prize of 45.6 billion won (roughly 38.5 million dollars).
Meanwhile, in Roblox, the rooms are designed to resemble various film locations and invite users to participate in a “Red Light, Green Light” game.
The game’s objective is for players to attempt to cross the arena while playing the children’s game. Like in the TV series, if a player moves during the call of “red light,” their character will be shot by a robot.
Other games from the show were also emulated, such as tug-of-war, marbles game, the bridge with tiles of mirrors, and the squid game.
The hashtags “SquidGame” and “RedLightGreenLight” were trending on Twitter, and Roblox game reviews have flooded YouTube and other social media platforms.
