How to Install Google Apps (Gapps) on Chinese MIUI ROM

Given Google’s controversies in China, the Xiaomi devices with Chinese MIUI ROM are not pre-installed with Google Play Store, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, and other Google apps. Access to Google apps is available only in the global ROM. Google apps, also known as Gapps, require a framework called GMS (Google Mobile Services) to function correctly. GMS is a Google framework that consists of a collection of applications and APIs that ensure the proper operation of Google Apps and Services.

If you’ve purchased a Xiaomi phone (Mi or Redmi) with Chinese version ROM installed and want to access Google services in it, you can follow this simple guide on how to install Google apps on MIUI China ROM.

Step 1: Download this zip file containing Google apps. Open your File Manager and extract it. Install all the APK files, including:

• Google Play services
• Google Services Framework
• Google Account Manager
• Google Contacts Sync
• Google Play Store
• Gboard (Google Keyboard)

Note: When the popup “Allow installation of app from unknown sources” occurs, just tap on the “Allow” button to give permission.

Step 2: After installing all the necessary Google apps, go to your phone’s Settings > Apps/Manage Apps. Find the Google Services Framework and toggle on the “Autostart” switch button.

Step 3: While you’re still on Manage apps, search for Google Play services. Tap on the App permissions menu and allow all the permissions.

Step 4: Reboot your device, and you’re done.
