European team Acend had been crowned the first-ever Valorant Champions after defeating domestic rivals Gambit Esports, 3-2, in the Grand Finals in Berlin, Germany, on December 13 GMT+8.
Game 1 on the Breeze map saw Acend making a good start with a 9-3 round advantage in the first half. However, Masters Berlin champs Gambit managed to reverse the game and scored a 13-11 win.
Acend bounced back on Game 2 as they fired up the first half with a 7-5 round lead. They continued their domination against Russia’s Gambit and ended the Ascent map with a 13-7 tally, equalizing the series.
Gambit crushed Acend on Game 3 on the Fracture map with a landslide 13-3 round win to take the series lead once again, heading to match point.
Acend made a resurgence on Game 4 as they prevailed in overtime in Icebox, 14-12, to force a do-or-die fifth game.
Carrying their momentum, Acend outplayed Gambit in the decider Game 5, finishing 13-8 round victory in the Split map.
Acend took home the grand prize of USD 350,000 from the USD 1,000,000 total prize pool. Meanwhile, Gambit earned USD 150,000.
