The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) stated it is coordinating with BDO Unibank and UnionBank following complaints of hacked accounts and unauthorized money transfers circulating on social media.
In a Twitter post, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Benjamin Diokno said they had been “monitoring the surge in complaints posted in social media platforms since the early part of this week.”
Diokno added that they are “in close coordination with BDO [Banco de Oro] as well as UBP [Union Bank of the Philippines] on this incident to ensure that remedial measures are being undertaken.”
One of these remedial measures includes “reimbursement of affected consumers,” according to BSP Governor.
He added that the central bank will continue to coordinate with their stakeholders to protect them and “to ensure the safety and integrity of the financial system.”
In a Facebook post on December 11, BDO Unibank advised its customers to change their passwords to protect their accounts.
“Change your password to protect your account,” the post read.
It was followed by a reminder stating that “Bonus season means scammers and hackers are more active than ever.”
