Subscription-based streaming service Netflix has revealed that the much-anticipated Season 2 of DOTA: Dragon’s Blood will release on January 6, 2022.
The anime series DOTA: Dragon’s Blood premiered on March 25, 2021, revolving around the epic adventures of Dota 2 heroes Davion the Dragon Knight and Mirana the Princess of the Moon. Other heroes appeared in the show as well, including Invoker, Terrorblade, and Luna.
DOTA: Dragon’s Blood rapidly became a hit with both veteran Dota 2 fans and newbies, cracking the Top 10 list of Netflix’s most-watched series in 47 different countries, including the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Valve also released a teaser for the second season of DOTA: Dragon’s Blood during The International 10 (TI10), the biggest tournament of the MOBA PC title Dota 2. The teaser revealed that another Dota 2 hero, Lina the Slayer, will join the show’s second season.
Moreover, the DOTA: Dragon’s Blood S2 teaser revealed that Marci, an original character from the animated show, would join the Dota 2 roster as a playable hero. Marci was then added to the game officially on November 1.
The Dota 2-based anime series is being produced by Ashley Edward Miller, best known for his work on X-Men: First Class, Thor, and Black Sails, in collaboration with Valve, and is animated by Studio MIR, the studio responsible for Avatar: The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender.
For the uninitiated, Dota 2, released by American game company Valve in 2013, is a sequel to the Defense of the Ancients (DOTA), a mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (2002) and its expansion, The Frozen Throne. It is the world’s most popular online game, with millions of players and various records for the highest e-sports tournament prize earnings.
