Activision Blizzard has announced that Diablo 2 will receive its new balance-focused update for the first time in 11 years, thanks to Diablo 2 Resurrected and patch 2.4, which will release in the game’s public test realm in early 2022.
The last time the action RPG received an update was in 2010 with patch 1.13c, and according to the developers, it “was officially the last time balance changes were added to the game.”
It added that the Diablo II: Resurrected, launched in September shortly after its open beta, has “welcomed old and new fans across PC and console to experience that version of Diablo II completely remastered.”
Activision Blizzard also said that “with the game reintroduced to modern audiences, we feel now is the right time to evolve Diablo 2 even further with patch 2.4” as this upcoming patch will “introduce improvements to balance, some exciting item changes, and more.”
Since the launch of Diablo II: Resurrected, many have expressed their appreciation for the remaster’s fidelity to the original Diablo II experience. However, fans would like to see specific tweaks to enhance the pleasure and viability of their favorite class builds.
The developers have looked into the input and will continue collaborating with the Diablo community and content developers. Patch 2.4 will introduce numerous adjustments to all character classes to expand build variation and class fantasy.
Diablo 2 Resurrected Patch 2.4 will also introduce the following:
- New Horadric Cube Recipes
- Set Item changes
- New Rune Words
- Improvements to mercenary companions
The new Horadric Cube Recipes will let players upgrade Set Items, allowing for even more item build possibilities. In addition, item changes will update underperforming sets, providing players with an additional incentive to pursue partial and complete set items.
Moreover, the new patch will add New Rune Words to complement the upcoming adjustments to class skills and mercenaries, allowing players to spice up new builds or recruit mercenaries they may have overlooked previously.
One of the most highly awaited elements is the start of the inaugural Ladder season, which will also take place early next year. Players can battle for the highest spot on the leaderboards and unlock a variety of unique Rune Words found only in Ladder. At the season’s conclusion, Ladder characters will be transferred to a ‘non-Ladder’ version of the game, allowing them to continue playing until the following season begins with new rewards.
