The teams for Season 9 are the same as Season 8. However, there are changes in their lineup. Of 8 teams, only Onic PH has the same roster, and all other squads revamped their players.
MPL PH S7 and S8 champs Blacklist International have shown their dominance globally as they were hailed as M3 World champions on December 19, 2021. Following their victory, the squad’s power duo V33Wise has decided to skip MPL PH S9 to take a “much-needed break,” which will “better equip them” for S10. At the same time, OhmyV33nus and Wise announced that they are eyeing the Sibol qualifiers in the hope of representing the Philippines at the Vietnam SEA Games in May 2022. With the duo skipping one season, the squad updated its roster by inserting veteran player Eson and new jungler Kevier into its main lineup.
Meanwhile, Onic PH didn’t make any changes to its lineup. The team finished in second place in MPL Season 8 and the M3 World Championship, both of which were ultimately dominated by rival Blacklist International.
S8’s third-placer Smart-led Omega Esports included rookies in its lineup, namely OUTPLAYED at Amethyst. They retained E2MAX, Kielvj, Renzio, Ch4knu, Kelra, Z4pnu, Allidap, and Raizen.
Nexplay EVOS, on the other hand, acquired the AP Esports roster (CADENZA, MP the King, Elpizo, URESHIII, and Donut) and welcomed returning player S4gitnu after a two-season break from the pro scene. H2WO, Renejay, Hesa, and YellyHaze stayed in the team. NXPE placed fourth in the previous season.
Season 8’s 5th-6th place finisher Echo assembled a so-called “super team” after acquiring M2 World Championship MVP KarlTzy, former NXPE roamer Yawi, and former TNC exp laner 3MarTzy. Staying in the team are Rafflesia, KurtTzy, Bennyqt, Rk3, Aaronqt, and Hadess.
Another S8’s 5th-6th place finisher RSG Philippines altered its roster for S9. They acquired former TNC players Light and Kousei. Heath, Kenji, EMANN, Aqua, Exort, Nathzz, Demonkite, and Wrecker will again play under the RSG PH banner. Besides being a member of RSG PH, Ghost Wrecker also handles the charity initiatives for Manny Pacquiao-led Team Pacquiao GG (TPGG).
Bren Esports ranked 7th-8th place in the previous season. Their M2 World champs lineup Pheww, Lusty, and Flap stayed. Lord Malikk (previously known as Malik) is also returning to the team. They will be joined by rookies Saxa, Stowm, Pandora, SUPER MARCO, Jowm, and Joy Boy.
TNC Pro Team finished 7th-8th place in the MPL last season. This season, they were eyeing for a higher finish and made significant roster changes. Benthings and SDzyz (former IGN Chuuu) will continue to lead the charge alongside rising stars ESCALERA, Kramm, KingSalman, and Yasuwo.
