Game publisher 2K has announced that Hall of Famer and iconic NBA player Michael Jordan (known by his initials MJ) will return as the cover athlete for NBA 2K23, the sequel to NBA 2K22.
Jordan, a six-time NBA champion, will appear on both covers of the NBA 2K23 Michael Jordan Edition and the “ultra-premium” NBA 2K23 Championship Edition.
This is Jordan’s fourth appearance on the cover of NBA 2K. He previously appeared on the cover of NBA 2K11, NBA 2K12, and NBA 2K16 Special Edition.
In a press release, 2K discussed Jordan’s inclusion as the cover athlete in the title year along with his legendary jersey number.
“After making 23 the most recognizable number [of the jersey] in sports, it was only fitting that for NBA 2K23, we introduce the Michael Jordan Edition,” said NBA 2K Vice President of Global Marketing Strategy Alfie Brody.
The limited-edition version of the game, NBA 2K23 Championship Edition, includes a 12-month subscription to NBA League Pass, which means players will be able to catch on-court action throughout the NBA season.
Besides being featured on the cover, Jordan will be playable in the game’s “Jordan Challenge” mode. This mode will task players with recreating 15 iconic moments from the NBA legend’s illustrious career.
All 10 of the original challenges from NBA 2K11 have been rebuilt from the ground up, and five brand new iconic Jordan moments have been included.
2K will provide additional information about The Jordan Challenge later in the summer.
Other cover athletes, as well as the game’s price, will be announced in the coming days, and pre-orders for the video game will go live on July 7, 2022.
NBA 2K23 is set to release on September 9, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch for the MJ Edition. Meanwhile, the Championship Edition is available for all of the aforementioned platforms, except for the Switch.
