LoL Worlds 2022 Game Format, Teams, Schedule, Streams

LoL Worlds 2022 is around the corner. Check out the 2022 League of Legends World Championship's format, teams, schedule, and streams below.

LoL Worlds 2022 Overview

The League of Legends Worlds 2022, the MOBA game's crowning tournament, will be held across North America from Thursday, September 29 to November 5. The venues are as follows:
  • Play-In – Arena Esports Stadium (LLA Studio), Mexico City
  • Group Stage & Quarterfinals – Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden, New York
  • Semifinals – State Farm Arena (Atlanta, Georgia)
  • Grand Final – Chase Center (San Francisco, California)

Twenty-four (24) participating teams will battle it out to claim the coveted Summoner's Cup trophy and the lion's share of a massive USD 2,225,000 (around PHP 130 million) prize pool. With the LCL (CIS) unable to send a representative to the tournament this year, their seed has been granted to the LEC (Europe), making it the only major region with two representatives in the Play-In round.

Worlds 2022 Game Format

Here's the tournament format for the 2022 LoL World Championship.

Play-Ins Stage (September 29 to October 4)

The twelve teams are split between two groups. In the Play-in stage, there will be two rounds. In Round 1, the format will be a Single Round-Robin, best-of-one. The top squads will move to the Group Stage. Meanwhile, in Round 2, the third and fourth place squads will play a best-of-five series, with the winners facing the second seed from the other group for the final Groups spot.

Group Stage (October 7 to 10 and October 13 to 16)

In the Group Stage, 12 direct invited teams and the 4 Play-ins qualifiers will be split into four groups, where squads will play against each other in a double round-robin format, best-of-one series. Then, the top two squads in each group will advance to the Knockout Stage.

Knockout Stage (October 20 to 23, October 29 to 30, and November 5)

In the Knockout Stage (Playoffs), the remaining 8 teams will play in a single-elimination bracket where first-placed teams will compete against second-placed teams from another group in a best-of-five series.
