Tekken 8 officially revealed with gameplay trailer

Seven long years after the previous iteration of the well-known fighting video game, Tekken 8, has been formally unveiled with a gameplay trailer.

During the Sony State of Play, Bandai Namco and the game's creators unveiled the first trailer for Tekken 8. However, this does not imply that it would only be available on the PlayStation 5, as the game will also be released on the Xbox Series X and Series S and Windows PC platforms.

The 2-minute video trailer showcases a father-and-son clash between Kazuya Mishima and Jin Kazama, which continues from the ending dialogue of Tekken 7.

According to Bandai Namco Studio executive producer and director Katsuhiro Harada, this first reveal trailer is actually in-game footage played on the PlayStation 5 (PS5).

"[A]ll the character models, backgrounds, and effects are the same ones that are used in-game," said Harada.

He also added that "although this [footage] was captured from the story mode, it is not a pre-rendered movie made for the trailer but rather real-time rendered footage, running at 60 frames per second, similar to how you would experience the game in versus battle modes."

Moreover, Harada noted that some of the effects, dialogue, and camera angles are still being updated and may change when the video game launches.

The release date for Tekken 8 is yet to be announced, but Bandai Namco is urging fans to "stay tuned."

For those unaware, Tekken 7 has a Filipino character named Josie Rizal, who debuted in 2015. She fights using Eskrima-based Kickboxing. Unlike most characters in Tekken 7 that speak in their native language, Josie speaks English with a local Filipino accent rather than her native tongue of Tagalog.
