Globe says it's optimizing its online SIM registration portal

Globe said that it is optimizing its online SIM Registration portal for a better customer experience.

According to Globe, it launched its online SIM Registration portal [new.globe.com.ph/simreg] early on December 27, 2022, in compliance with the law but had to make the website temporarily inaccessible to ensure a better registration experience for customers.

Several Globe subscribers were able to access the website and register between 4 AM and 7 AM, but the portal temporarily went offline as the site was being optimized.

Globe Telecom aims to have the online platform back up within the day.

Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications of the Globe Group, said that they would like to thank their customers for going in to register early.

"Technical teams are working double time so the online [SIM registration] platform can go live before the day ends," said Crisanto. "Rest assured that we are optimizing our systems to give you a better registration experience."

Crisanto also reminded their Globe Prepaid, TM, Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi, Globe Mobile WiFi and Globe Business prepaid customers that "there is enough time to register," as the deadline for SIM registration is until April 26, 2023.

Meanwhile, SIM card registration via the GlobeOne app will begin in January 2023, while on-site assisted registration for Globe customers with difficulties using digital or online platforms, feature or basic phones, or no internet access will begin in February 2023.

Globe said it has been preparing for the implementation of the SIM Registration Law but had to recalibrate its system within 15 days due to the release of new guidelines under the implementing rules and regulations (IRR), including the selfie verification step. The IRR was published on December 12, 2022.

Crisanto asked their customers for their understanding as their company experiences these birth pains given this massive deployment of software. She said that they're setting the stage for their customers to have a good digital experience.

On the other hand, existing Globe Postpaid, Globe Platinum, and Globe Business postpaid customers' data and information are already incorporated into the Globe registration platform. Globe will contact these customers to confirm and complete their registration information, ensuring that customer data complies with the requirements of the law.

The SIM Registration Act is a significant step in the fight against criminals who use anonymous SIM cards for illegal purposes. This provides customers with additional security and protection.

Moreover, the law complements Globe's ongoing efforts to combat fraud, which include investing in filtering systems, blocking scam and spam SMS messages proactively, and collaborating with banks and other financial institutions to share data.
