SIM card registration starts; most online portals down

SIM card registration in the Philippines has officially started. However, most online registration portals are down or unavailable due to the high volume of visits.

Here are the online SIM registration portals of each telco:
  • Smart/TNT/SUN subscribers - smart.com.ph/simreg
  • Globe/TM/GOMO subscribers - new.globe.com.ph/simreg
  • DITO subscribers - dito.ph/sim-registration

In an advisory, Smart said that "due to the high volume of registrants, some subscribers may experience difficulty accessing the SIM registration site." It added their technical team is working on increasing capacity.

Meanwhile, Globe customer service representatives, via their Twitter account, always respond:
"We apologize for the inconvenience. Due to the high surge of customer registration, we have experienced system issues, and we are now working on the fix. Also, you can register your SIM cards until April 26, 2023. Paki-subukan ulit ito at a later time [Try again at a later time]. Salamat [Thanks]."

The SIM Card Registration Act is one of the country's newest laws. By regulating the sale and use of SIMs and requiring end-user registration, the law aims to end crimes committed via the platform, such as text and online scams.

This includes all SIMs, including embedded SIMs, and other variations/technologies provided by any Public Telecommunications Entity (PTE) in order to provide SMS, voice, and/or data services.

After the law goes into effect, all existing SIM card holders have 180 days, or six months, to register their phone numbers with their respective telco service providers.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has launched a 24/7 complaint center where individuals can report problems with SIM registration and provide suggestions for improving the process. Users can contact this complaint center via hotline number 1326.
