SIM card registration in the Philippines is set to begin on December 27, 2022. That said, existing SIM users, prepaid and postpaid, must register their SIM cards to prevent deactivation. Once the SIM is deactivated, it cannot be used for outgoing or incoming calls, internet access, or sending and receiving text messages.
To register their SIMs, users must submit their personal information and a valid ID to their respective telcos, according to National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). If you're a current cellular service subscriber of Globe, TM, Smart, TNT, Sun, DITO, GOMO, or Cherry Prepaid, here are the details you need to take note of.
How to register SIM?
Starting December 27, 2022, existing prepaid users can register their SIM card for free via their telco provider's respective online SIM registration platform:

For those who don't have access to the internet or still using a basic or feature phone, telcos will be setting up assisted registration sites.
Meanwhile, existing postpaid users will be notified by their respective telcos and will be asked to confirm the information they provided when they subscribed.

If you're an existing SIM user, you have until April 26, 2023, to register your SIM cards.
What if I didn't register by the given deadline?
The registration can still be extended for a maximum of 120 days, which is until August 24, 2023. If you fail to register within the period prescribed, your SIM will be deactivated automatically.
How to reactivate a deactivated SIM card?
According to NTC, a deactivated SIM card will be given a 5-day grace period to register and get reactivated.
Why is SIM registration needed?
The passage of the SIM registration law was mainly to prevent the proliferation of scams and spam messages, as per National Telecommunications Commission.
