Globe reported that it would roll out SIM registration booths in over 500 locations nationwide from February 20, 2023, onwards. It also revealed that the GlobeOne app is now open for prepaid SIM registration.
The telco launched the first-ever National SIM Registration Week (NSRW) today. Together with National Telecommunications Commissioner (NTC) Ella Blanca Lopez, Department of Information and Communications Technology Undersecretary Anna Mae Lamentillo, and Makati Mayor Abigail Binay, Globe Consumer Mobile Business Head Darius Delgado and Channel Management Group Head Cleo Santos led the launch at a Globe facility in Makati City.
Globe wants to reach out to customers, especially senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), pregnant women, people who use basic phones, and people who don't have internet access, to help them comply with the SIM Registration Act before the deadline of April 26, 2023.
Customers who register their SIM cards during National SIM Registration Week or online will be entered into a special Globe raffle for a chance to win tickets to the annual outdoor music and arts festival Wanderland and the Arctic Monkeys concert in March. The promo is open to everyone who registers a SIM card and runs until February 28, 2023.
Globe is also working with the local government of Makati City to help people register from February 20 to February 24, 2023, at the Makati City Hall open parking area.
Globe is using a variety of methods to reach its customers and get them to register for SIM cards. With only three months left to register SIM cards, the Globe Group is using its affiliates, subsidiaries, and the full support of the #OneAyalaGroup to get people to sign up.
Globe has put assisted registration hubs in 90 remote areas since January to help the government with SIM registration. It also worked with Puregold to offer assisted registration in 30 strategically chosen branches, as well as during the Sinulog festival in Cebu and the Dinagyang festival in Iloilo.
Globe wants SIM registration to be easy and convenient for everyone, so it has taken a number of steps to make sure everyone can meet the April 26 deadline. Customers of Globe Prepaid and TM can also sign up easily through the GlobeOne app or by going to new.globe.com.ph/simreg.
For Globe Postpaid and Platinum customers, it only takes one step to register a SIM card. When the customer gets the call to register an SMS, all they have to do is text SIMREG to 8080 to confirm that the information they gave Globe when they signed up for a postpaid plan is still correct.
The SIM Registration Act says that all SIM cards must be registered. This is a big step toward stopping criminal activity, like smishing and other mobile phone and online scams that have spread because unregistered SIMs are hard to track.
