Dota 2 Patch 7.33: Major Changes, New Map, More Updates

Dota 2 has released its massive 7.33 patch, bringing a new map, major gameplay changes, new items, hero reworks, and UI improvements, among others. Check out the major changes in Dota 2 7.33 update dubbed "The New Frontiers" below.

A Bigger Map

The new Dota 2 map is now 40% larger, with new areas added to each corner. The top and bottom lanes are the most notable areas that are much bigger now.

New Dota 2 Map

Here are the changes made to the new map:
  • 2 Roshan Pits – Roshan now has two separate pits located in the upper left and lower right corners of the map. The tankier monster can be found in one of either of these two pits, depending on whether it is day or night in the game. He also no longer drops Aghanim's Shards and now drops Cheese on his second death instead of his third. His third death drops a Scepter or a Refresher Shard, depending on whether he's in North Pit or South Pit.
  • Twin Gates – Portals can now be found at the corners of the map, close to Roshan's pits. These will now enable players to switch lanes without consuming Teleport scrolls.
  • New Lotus Pools – They can be found on the side lanes (near the Safelane of Radiant and Dire sides), producing fruits over time that restores HP and mana. These fruits can be merged to create larger fruits that give bigger bonuses.
  • Tormentors – These new neutral creeps spawn at the 20-minute mark. They are strong and equipped with mega shields that reflect damage, but beating them will reward the team with Aghanim's Shards.
  • Watchers – These small outposts will provide players and their teams with vision (like a free ward) around a small area for seven minutes when activated by clicking on them. Enemies can sabotage your team's watchers, disabling them temporarily. Killing Roshan will activate all Watchers on your team's side.
  • Defender's Gates – This small gate (like a back door with a force field) is present for both Radiant and Dire sides, letting your team pass through and keeping the enemy team out.
  • Two new outposts for each team, which players can teleport to.
  • Two new runes – Wisdom Runes spawn near the base and provide the player who picks them up with bonus EXP. Shield Runes that spawn in the river near the mid-lane provide 50% of the user's maximum HP as a barrier.

New Creeps

This Dota 2 7.33 patch adds a large number of new neutral creeps and 12 new creep camps, requiring you to traverse the jungle for loot and EXP. They now scale with time, making late-game creep farming more difficult.

New Hero Type

The MOBA game now features a fourth hero Type, dubbed the Universal hero. Heroes under the new Universal attribute type will gain 0.6 damage from each stat of any attribute.

Universal heroes include Abaddon, Bane, Batrider, Beastmaster, Brewmaster, Broodmother, Chen, Clockwerk, Dark Seer, Dark Willow, Dazzle, Enigma, Io, Lone Druid, Lycan, Marci, Magnus, Mirana, Nyx Assassin, Pangolier, Phoenix, Sand King, Snapfire, Techies, Timbersaw, Vengeful Spirit, Venomancer, Visage, Void Spirit, Windranger, and Winter Wyvern.

New Items

In addition to a reworked core item and a reworked neutral item drop, a large number of new neutral items have been added.
  • The Black King Bar (BKB) has been reworked so that it now applies a basic dispel and grants 50% Magic Resistance and Debuff Immunity instead of the typical Spell Immunity. This makes heroes protected by the BKB significantly less invulnerable but still powerfully protected.
  • Instead of dropping neutral items, neutral creeps now drop tokens that players can use to select one of five neutral items. As users select neutral items, however, they can no longer be shared.
  • Seven new items in the shop: Blood Grenade, Cornucopia, Diadem, Disperser, Pavise, Phylactery, and Harpoon.
  • Seven new neutral items: Defiant Shell, Duelist Gloves, Gossamer Cape, Dandelion Amulet, Spark of Courage, Martyr's Plate, and Vindicator's Axe.

Matchmaking Changes

The old Elo system has been replaced by the Glicko system, which is a modified version of Elo. Simply put, the Rank Confidence number represents the Valve's confidence in the current MMR or Rank of a player. A player's Rank Confidence will increase as they play more ranked games, as Valve gains more data about their skills.

Meanwhile, Immortal players no longer just draft heroes but also their teammates, as every Immortal match will now begin with a player draft before selecting from the Hero Pool.

Improved UI

The interface was revamped to display HP costs of skills as well as shield and health bar visibility.

To recall, the Dota 2 7.32 update, which was released in August 2022, brought the new Flagbearer Creep and XP Changes, among others.
