Globe and TM users may register their SIMs via GCash app

Globe Prepaid and TM subscribers may now register their SIMs via the GCash app, and they will get free 1GB of data upon successful registration.

GCash made the announcement after the government approved the 90-day extension of the SIM registration deadline, which was initially set for April 26, 2023.

According to GCash, Globe and TM subscribers who are also users of the e-wallet app "will receive a prompt to register their SIMs, and they just need to follow the instructions."

After the successful SIM registration, they will get free 1GB of open-access data which they can use right away.

Customers will avoid SIM deactivation and have uninterrupted access to their e-wallet accounts if they register their SIMs.

Meanwhile, customers who fail to register their GCash-registered SIMs can still access their funds by contacting the GCash Help Center and requesting a transfer to a new registered mobile number. However, the process will take several days.

GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon said:
That's why we encourage SIM users with GCash wallets to register their SIMs before the deadline to avoid this inconvenience. We remind our customers to register their SIMs only with the GCash app or through the official portals of their respective telco providers.

GCash said it would never ask its customers to share their OTP (one-time password), MPIN (mobile personal identification number), or other sensitive information.

For the uninitiated, SIM registration is mandated by the Philippine government under Republic Act (RA) 11934 or the SIM Registration Act. The law was enacted to combat online scams and other forms of cybercrime.
