Globe taps ECBS to alert users of SIM registration deadline

Globe revealed that it sent out urgent alerts to customers about the SIM registration deadline via Emergency Cell Broadcast System (ECBS).

According to the telco, this was done to instill urgency in millions of customers who have yet to register their SIMs.

Globe said it utilized the ECBS as a component of network management and implemented the emergency blast within acceptable parameters. The NDRRMC (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council) has given no objections to the use of ECBS after prior notice. The Free Mobile Disaster Alerts Act permits the NDRRMC and other relevant government agencies to use the telco network system to broadcast warnings during natural disasters and emergencies.

Globe took this action to promptly advise its customers to register their SIM cards in order to prevent the deactivation of their essential mobile services.

Globe believes that a lack of connectivity will harm mobile users by limiting their access to essential services such as financial transactions, healthcare, education, livelihood, transportation, and delivery, among others.

Disconnection from mobile services will also prevent mobile users from receiving government alerts, such as disaster warnings.

Globe Group President and CEO Ernest Cu said:
We are at a critical time as the deadline draws near, and we want to ensure that our customers are compliant with the law to avoid SIM deactivation. This way, they will continue to enjoy our call, text and data services for their day-to-day needs.

Globe has registered over 35.8 million SIM cards for its 86.7 million customers as of April 22, 2023. The telco continues to encourage its consumers to register their SIM cards while also requesting that the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) extend the deadline for registration beyond April 26.

The Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the SIM Registration Act permit an extension of up to 120 days.

Globe continues to increase its consumer registration efforts. With 147 Stores and 25 EasyHubs transformed into assistance centers, customers can simply obtain assistance with SIM registration requirements. The company has also partnered with local governments, grocery stores, and shopping centers to install assisted registration booths in over 100 locations across the country.

Globe has participated in SIM Registration Caravans conducted by the National Telecommunications Commission since January to reach subscribers in remote areas. The objective of these efforts is to make registration services accessible and convenient for all subscribers, regardless of location.

Users of Globe and TM Prepaid SIMs and Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi can register their SIMs for free via the official website [https://ift.tt/ky5p43A] or the GlobeOne app. By texting SIMREG to 8080, postpaid subscribers can affirm their information and complete registration. The registration instructions for company-owned Globe Business accounts have been sent to your company's authorized representative.
