Smart welcomes 90-day SIM registration extension

Smart welcomed the government's decision to extend the SIM registration deadline for another 90 days, beyond the initial April 26 deadline.

Smart Communications made the announcement after President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. approved the 90-day extension of the SIM card registration deadline, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) issued a public announcement.

That said, Smart expressed its commitment to intensify its call for SIM registration via a multi-platform strategy to reach more subscribers.

Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Head of Group Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart, said that the 90-day extension of the SIM Registration deadline would give Smart and TNT users "more time to comply with the law and register their SIM." It will also give telcos like themselves and the government "more time to reach more subscribers and campaign for SIM Registration."

Since December 27, 2022, Smart said they have been exerting maximum effort across multiple communication channels, including television, radio, print, billboards, text messages, digital, on-the-ground activities, exclusive data and text promos, pre-recorded messages through interactive voice response (IVR), and flash messages.

These alerts are sent to Smart and Talk 'N Text subscribers in multiple regions throughout the Philippines to urge them to take action before the deadline to avoid SIM deactivation.

According to Smart, they have been deploying thousands of assisted SIM Registration booths nationwide, collaborating closely with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the National Telecommunications Commission, other mobile operators, and other stakeholders to encourage registration among Filipino mobile users.

To register their SIM, new and existing Smart Prepaid and TNT users may still visit PLDT and Smart stores or access Smart's SIM registration portal [https://ift.tt/dwP08Zp].
