GCash says 'no hacking occurred' amid funds deduction issues

GCash said "no hacking occurred" despite reports of missing money due to alleged unauthorized transactions.

According to complaints from several GCash users, their funds were transferred to unknown bank accounts, specifically EastWest ending in number 5239 and AUB ending in 3008.

With regard to the issue, GCash, through its Facebook page, made an official statement.

"Some customers may have experienced a deduction in their GCash account yesterday. We extended our scheduled maintenance to investigate and determined that no hacking occurred," it said.

"Any deduction from a GCash account will be adjusted before 3:00 PM today," the statement read.

"We wish to further assure the affected customers that their funds remain safe and secure. We would also like to remind customers never to share their OTP and MPIN," it stated.

GCash has not provided a reason for how these deductions occurred, except for their statement denying any hacking incident.

Earling this morning, GCash underwent maintenance, which caused its service to be down temporarily, preventing users to access the mobile wallet app.

During the maintenance, users can't also use their GCash Mastercard to withdraw money from ATM machines.

Moreover, the e-wallet service has disabled its Biometric Login feature, leaving MPIN and OTP the only security options available for logging in to the GCash app.

Another disabled in-app feature is Bank Transfer, preventing users to transfer money to other bank accounts. GCash promised that the disabled features would be back up soon.
