Globe reported surge in SIM registrations as deadline lapsed

Globe reported a surge in SIM registrations to the NTC on the final day before the deadline expired and the grace period for reactivation began.

This welcome influx of last-minute registrants, according to Globe, was attributed to their vigorous communications campaign and the support of its customers, government regulators, and private sector partnerships.

Globe received a total of 3.344 million registrations on July 25, 2023, the last day of SIM registrations, as subscribers rushed to beat the deadline. The following day, July 26, when deactivations began, a total of 452,997 consumers reactivated their mobile services, while an additional 126,344 did so on July 27.

Globe Telecom has registered over 52.302 million SIMs, including Globe Prepaid, Globe Postpaid, Globe Platinum, TM [Touch Mobile], Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi, and Globe Business SIMs, as of July 27, 2023.

A Globe survey conducted weeks before the deadline revealed that many SIM users were aware that they needed to register their SIMs but were too occupied to do so. This explains the surge in last-minute registrations.

Ernest Cu, Globe Group President and CEO, said:
We were surprised yet happy with the turnout over the seven-month period of SIM registration, as we have been able to cover nearly all our active users. We thank our customers for heeding our call for SIM registration via various communications channels- from print, radio, TV, and digital platforms– and our on-ground activations to reach the elderly, PWDs, pregnant women, basic and feature phone users, and those in remote areas.

Reactivation for unregistered SIMs is until July 30, 2023

Globe opened multiple platforms for SIM registration to accommodate its millions of customers, including its own online portal https://ift.tt/6GopwPe, the GlobeOne app, GCash, and a volume registration portal for enterprise customers.

In addition, it established 1,572 SIM Registration Assistance Desks, both in support of government initiatives and on its own initiative. Globe also opened Globe Stores and EasyHubs nationwide to assist walk-in consumers with SIM registration.

The reactivation grace period for unregistered SIMs ends on July 30. Globe urges customers with unregistered SIM cards to comply with the law before July 31, when all unregistered SIMs will be permanently deactivated. All new SIM cards must be registered prior to accessing mobile and broadband services.
