
League of Legends (LoL) developer Riot Games announced that the fifth season of the Pacific Championship Series (PCS) will start on January 19, 2024.
Eight teams are participating in a cross-regional esports league spanning Southeast Asia (SEA), Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau.
PCS 2024 Spring Split, organized by Riot Games and Carry Live Co., will be broadcast live on all official PCS channels. The tournament will take place every Thursday/Friday to Sunday at 5 PM GMT+8, spanning over 12 weeks, including the PCS Playoffs.
A lot of well-known LoL players, like Karsa and SwordArt, have come back to the PCS during the off-season, bringing tough competition and increasing the level of play in the region.

Next season, the PCS ecosystem will expand to include the League of Legends Japan League (LJL). The LJL will proceed with its domestic season in Japan. After that, The top three teams from the LJL will join the PCS Playoffs and compete with teams from the PCS and the top two teams from the League of Legends Circuit Oceania. (LCO). All teams will be competing for a chance to participate in global tournaments such as the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the World Championship (Worlds).
Here are the participating PCS teams for the 2024 Spring Split:
- Beyond Gaming (BYG)
- CTBC Flying Oyster (CFO)
- Deep Cross Gaming (DCG)
- Frank Esports (FAK)
- Hell Pigs (HPS)
- PSG Talon (PSG)
- Taipei J Team (JT)
- West Point Esports (WP)

PSG Academy and Nate9527, both of which were promoted through the Pacific Challengers League the previous season, will not be competing in the forthcoming PCS season.
With only eight teams in the league, the PCS will introduce format changes during the regular season to determine the top six teams that will move on to the Playoffs.
Here's the tournament format for the LoL PCS 2024 Spring Split:
- All matches are a best-of-3 (BO3) series.
- The Regular Season will be split into two halves:
- The first phase will be a single round-robin format.
- The second phase will see teams divided into two groups based on their results from the first phase. Teams will compete in another single round-robin to determine their seedings in the PCS Playoffs.
- This split, Riot Games is also trialing a new 1v1 Showdown where teams will participate to earn the right to pick their side for Game 1 of their upcoming match.

This season, all matches will be broadcast in the following languages: English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. The playoffs will also have a Japanese-language broadcast available.
