Sky Cable is slated to shut down its cable TV operations on February 27, 2024, 32 years after its 1992 launch. This decision comes after Sky Cable received approval from PCC to sell its broadband business to the telco giant PLDT.
Earlier, the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) approved the PHP 6.75 billion sale of Sky Cable's broadband business and assets to the Manny V. Pangilinan-led firm PLDT. However, the sale of 100% of Sky Cable's issued and outstanding capital stock is subject to final closing conditions. Sky Cable's parent company, ABS-CBN, has announced that it will provide further updates on the transaction once these conditions have been met.
Subscribers of Sky Cable were notified via SMS regarding this. The text message read:
In anticipation of and pursuant to the closing conditions of the PLDT-Sky acquisition deal, Sky will now begin its transition into a dedicated internet service provider. With this deal, the final broadcast and sign-off of Sky Cable will be on February 26, 2024, at 11:59 pm.
Through its official Facebook page, SKY also posted several advisories for its subscribers.
