Taking care of your money and keeping a record of what you spend can be a difficult job. However, with the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) app, it becomes a lot easier. Not only does it keep your savings secure and growing, but it also enables you to conduct quick, easy, and secure transactions. To make the most of the BPI app and enhance your banking experience, try these four tips.
#1. Regularly update your BPI app
Constantly, the Bank of the Philippine Islands enhances its mobile application. You can ensure the security of your funds and information by consistently using the latest version, which is exclusively compatible with secure devices. Such devices must be operating on Android 8 (and higher) and iOS 14 (and up) and must not have been rooted, jailbroken, or modified.
For Android mobile users, it is recommended to disable "Developer Options" within the general settings of your device. These limitations serve to protect the BPI application from malicious actors who may attempt to circumvent its security measures.
#2. Register the phone with your BPI-registered SIM inserted
After downloading the BPI app, you'll need to log in and register your device. BPI has recently implemented this security feature to ensure that only you can access your account. By doing so, you can enjoy banking with confidence, knowing that your info is safe and secure.

Here are the tips for registering your device with your BPI-registered SIM:
- First and foremost, ensure that your SIM has enough load to send at least 1 SMS. Then, follow the step-by-step instructions on the app to register your device.
- Data-only SIM cards cannot send SMS, so they cannot be used for device registration.
- In order to use your BPI app on a device with a different mobile SIM or if you no longer have access to your old SIM number (due to a lost/expired SIM), you must first change your registered mobile number. Go to online.bpi.com.ph and enter your login credentials. If you are prompted to "Send SMS OTP," click on "Not your phone?" and provide the details of the BPI product you have and your new mobile number. Afterward, activate your new number at the nearest BPI branch ATM.
- If you're working abroad, make sure to update your registered mobile number with your current local SIM card so you can register your device. To do this, simply call a customer service representative who can assist you with updating your mobile number. You can contact a BPI call center agent at 1-800-188-89100 (domestic toll-free calls).
#3. Activate the Mobile Key on your BPI app
Enabling the Mobile Key on your device enables you to swiftly and securely authorize transactions. With Mobile Key, you can conveniently bypass the inconvenience of waiting for an OTP text, resending a new one when the previous one takes too long to arrive, and copying and pasting across multiple apps.
Further, Mobile Key serves as an additional security layer to ensure that it's indeed you who is attempting to access your BPI account. That's why every time your device updates apps, you switch devices, or you visit BPI online through a web browser, BPI will request Mobile Key verification.

To activate the Mobile Key on your BPI app, make sure to enable "Push notifications" and "Transaction alerts and offers" in the app's settings. This will ensure a successful activation process.
#4. Pay via QR from your BPI app
You can skip the hassle of loading up or cashing into your e-wallets and pay directly in stores with your BPI account; thanks to BPI's pay via QR feature, you can complete your transaction in just four easy steps. All you need to do is open the app and tap the quick-access QR icon at the top right of the screen. Simply scan the QR, log in to your account, and select the account from which you want to pay. That's it! You're done!

You can use the BPI app to scan QR Ph payments, regardless of whether they are for GCash, Maya, or other banks. Just look for the QR Ph symbol in the middle and give it a try at any of the thousands of stores nationwide that accept this payment method.
Note: When you scan a QR code, it's essential to take a quick look at the top of your screen to make sure you're not incurring any transaction fees. If it says "Pay merchant," you're using a merchant QR Ph code, which won't cost you anything. However, if it says "Transfer to other banks," then it's a QR Ph code for an individual account, and you may end up paying transfer fees. So, it's recommended to keep an eye out for the message on the top of your screen to avoid any unwanted costs.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to mobile banking, convenience is king – but it should never be at the expense of security. The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is continually making improvements to its app to offer just that and make it do more for its customers.
