Mobile wallet firm GCash released an advisory through its social media pages on Facebook and X (Twitter) regarding the disappearance of the app from the Google Play Store.
The issue started on January 31, 2024. Many GCash users noticed that the GCash app was gone from the Google Play Store. Upon going to its Play Store page (https://ift.tt/FKYuc1S), you'll be greeted with this message: We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server. Since then, Android users haven't been able to download the GCash app from the Google Play Store.
Here's the full statement of GCash on February 1, 2024, regarding the unavailability of its app on Google Play:
GCash is updating some features of the app for Android users and is closely working with Google to make it available on the Play Store again. For users who wish to download the app from the Google Play Store, kindly stay tuned for more updates. Current GCash users can use the app, and they can be assured that their accounts and funds are safe and secure. The GCash app remains available on the Apple App Store and the Huawei App Gallery. Do not download the GCash app from untrusted sources.
From the advisory, GCash noted that they are "closely working with Google" to update app features and release it again on the Play Store. However, the Globe-led e-wallet company remained vague about which particular app features were being modified and refrained from providing an estimated time for when the GCash app would be available for download on the Google Play Store once again.
Meanwhile, existing GCash users who are using Android phones can continue using their versions of the app without any issues. They can still log in and do transactions. GCash also guarantees that "accounts and funds are safe and secure."
Thankfully, the GCash app is still available on the Apple App Store (for iOS devices) and on Huawei AppGallery (for Huawei devices, especially those without Google Mobile Services).
