Globe, Converge led co-build projects in Bicol and Leyte

Globe Telecom and Converge are leading co-build projects in the Bicol Region and Leyte Province to improve their networks' capacity and resilience.

According to the two Philippine telcos, this collaboration project will extend fiber optic networks and improve the delivery of reliable connectivity. They also said that this marks a key industry milestone in collaborative network expansion.

In 2022, Globe and Converge started their first project together: a co-build that spanned from Pili, Camarines Sur, to Legazpi City, Albay. This was made possible by a partnership that was signed in February 2022. This project includes installing state-of-the-art microduct solution underground facilities using cutting-edge technology. The project was finished in the third quarter of 2022.

As a result of the initial project's success, a subsequent collaborative construction venture commenced in Leyte Province during the third quarter of 2023. Baybay, which spans 209 kilometers and is intended to link Tacloban and Maasin, is 80% complete at present and is anticipated to be finished by the third quarter of 2024.

These projects are a component of Globe's fundamental fortification program and are intended to expand the fiber network, increase network capacity, and accommodate the requirements of Hyperscalers. Furthermore, the program places emphasis on enhancing the Fiber Optic Core Backbone Network's resilience in order to withstand the detrimental effects of typhoons and other natural calamities.

Joel Agustin, Globe SVP and Head of Network Planning and Engineering, said:
Our collaboration with Converge demonstrates our commitment to improving telecom infrastructure across the Philippines. By pooling our resources and expertise, we're not only expanding our network more efficiently but also significantly lowering the costs associated with such extensive infrastructure projects. We truly appreciate the collaboration with Converge as we share the same focus on delivering reliable service to our customers. We are looking forward to a sustained and fruitful partnership as we continue to strive to improve the experience of our customers.

Agustin said the collaboration with Converge ICT allows Globe Telecom "to continue to improve its network availability and consistency, which are critical in providing reliable service."
