Nokia to improve broadband experience of Globe users

Nokia has been selected by Globe Telecom to modernize its Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) infrastructure in the Philippines. Globe Telecom will use its BNG solution in key areas of the Philippines to upgrade its infrastructure and improve broadband for customers.

This will also support Globe's residential wireline broadband services and will also help Globe cut costs and enable support for Fixed Wireless Access services. Check out more details below.

Nokia announced that Globe Telecom will implement its BNG solution in key areas in the country, such as North Luzon, South Luzon, National Capital Region, Visayas, and Mindanao, in order to enhance its infrastructure and offer a more exceptional broadband experience to its customers.

Globe Telecom's residential wireline postpaid and prepaid broadband services will be supported by Nokia's solution upon its deployment.

Globe Telecom will be able to offer the new solution towards Fixed Mobile Convergence, as well as implement a capability to support Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services, thereby optimizing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

Nokia's solution comprises the 7750 Service Router (SR), which will function as a BNG platform to facilitate broadband services with subscriber management, bandwidth management, and per-subscriber policy control. Globe Telecom will also employ Nokia's 7750 SR Extended Services Appliance (ESA) to facilitate Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation (CGNAT) and Application Assurance functions.

Joel Agustin, Senior Vice President - Network Planning and Engineering, Network Technical Group at Globe Telecom, stated:
We are committed to continuously improving our network infrastructure to provide the best possible broadband experience to our subscribers. Nokia's new BNG solution introduces [the] capability to evolve into a flexible multi-access gateway that can combine wireline and wireless access technologies, enabling us to further increase efficiencies. We are looking forward to working with Nokia on this crucial initiative.

Kent Wong, Vice President and Head of IP Business at Nokia Asia Pacific, stated:
We have a longstanding partnership with Globe Telecom and are now delighted to work on this initiative to modernize the BNG network for an overall improved broadband experience. Our industry-leading BNG solution equipped with multi-access gateway capabilities is based on 7750 SR and powered by our breakthrough FP network processor technology and proven Service Router Operating System (SR OS) will help build a scalable, flexible and energy-efficient broadband network and pave the way for future evolution towards Fixed Mobile Convergence.
