Sad news for gamers of Riot Games titles in the Philippines, as the game developer officially updated the prices of its premium currency across all of its games, except for Wild Rift.
The following are the price increases for each game:
- RP for League of Legends (LoL) and Teamfight Tactics (TFT) – 40%
- VP for VALORANT – 7%
- Wild Cores for League of Legends: Wild Rift – No change
- LoR Coins for Legends of Runeterra – 7%
To give you an example, I logged in to my LoL account before and after the implementation price adjustment (September 19, 2024, here in the Philippines). By the way, the selected payment method was Visa. Check out the changes below.
- LoL PH RP prices on the new update:
- PHP 199 – 575 RP + 0 Bonus RP = 575 RP
- PHP 449 – 1275 RP + 105 Bonus RP = 1380 RP
- PHP 899 – 2525 RP + 275 Bonus RP = 2800 RP
- PHP 1399 – 4025 RP + 475 Bonus RP = 4500 RP
- PHP 1999 – 5750 RP + 750 Bonus RP = 6500 RP
- PHP 3999 – 11525 RP + 1975 Bonus RP = 13500 RP
- Meanwhile, here are LoL PH RP prices before the update:
- PHP 50 – 200 RP + 0 Bonus RP = 200 RP
- PHP 149 – 600 RP + 50 Bonus RP = 650 RP
- PHP 349 – 1425 RP + 200 Bonus RP = 1625 RP
- PHP 649 – 2650 RP + 500 Bonus RP = 3150 RP
- PHP 999 – 4075 RP + 1050 Bonus RP = 5125 RP
- PHP 2090 – 8525 RP + 2950 Bonus RP = 11475 RP
If you have noticed, the old pricing conversion has a ratio ranging from 4 RP to 5.49 RP per Peso, while the new pricing has lesser RP per Peso, ranging from 2.89 RP to 3.38 RP per Peso.
In a blog post, Riot Games explained the reasons why they raised the prices of their game's premium currencies.
Riot Games stated:
As the global economy changes, we sometimes need to adjust our pricing to account for shifts in exchange rates and local economies.
The American video game developer then cited the main reason for the price adjustments:
The reality is that these adjustments are necessary to combat the manipulation we're seeing in the system and to ensure that everyone is playing on a level field.
Further, Riot Games expressed hope for this recent price hike:
Our hope is that by balancing currency values more consistently across regions, we can reduce the opportunities for exploitation and maintain fairness for everyone.
