Team Liquid swept Gaimin Gladiators 3-0 in the Dota 2 The International (TI) 2024 grand finals to win the highly coveted Aegis of Champions.
With this win, Team Liquid (or TL) is finally a two-time TI winner, the first of which occurred in TI7 (2017). This makes them the third Dota 2 team to achieve this feat, joining Team Spirit (who won TI 2023 and TI 2021) and OG (TI 2018 and TI 2019).
Meanwhile, this is the first TI win for Nisha, MiCKe, Insania, and Boxi. Neta "33" Shapira, on the other hand, has won two TI Championships with two different teams, securing his first one when he played with Tundra Esports in the 2022 event.
For winning TI 2024 or TI 13, European Team Liquid not only clinched the Aegis of Champions but also bagged the grand prize of over USD 1.1 million. Note that this is the second-smallest grand prize in TI history (the lowest prizes were offered at USD 1 million each in TI1 and TI2).
TL's fellow western European team Gaimin Gladiators (or GG) settled for a second-place finish, earning over USD 360K in consolation.
Team Liquid started the best-of-five (Bo5) TI 2024 Grand Finals strong with a dominant win against Gaimin Gladiators in only 29 minutes in Game 1, followed by a nerve-racking victory in 44 minutes in Game 2, and ultimately secured a sweep after a 34-minute match in Game 3.
Prior to the grand finals, Team Liquid dominated the playoffs bracket of Dota 2's most prestigious tournament, going undefeated in six consecutive games, from the upper bracket quarterfinal to the upper bracket final.
