Rusty Rabbit, an upcoming 2.5D side scroller, will launch globally on April 17, 2025, for PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch, announced NetEase Games and Nitroplus. Pre-orders for PS5 and Nintendo Switch versions began January 14.
The planned pricing of the game was also updated, which is now set at USD 19.99/EUR 19.99. No official pricing yet for the Philippines.
Here are the special access notes for each platform:
- For those who pre-order the PS5 version, they will get early access to play the game on April 14, 2025, three days before the official release.
- For the Nintendo Switch, a packaged retail version (available in Japan and Asia) and a digital version will be available.
- The PC version (on Steam) will include a bundle with the game's soundtrack. The music was created by Busted Rose, a sound producer known for writing songs for the anime "Pop Team Epic" and various anime theme songs. They also create background music, game songs, and music for artists.
According to NetEase Games, it will release a demo trial version of Rusty Rabbit on February 20, 2025, at 5:00 PM PST. This version lets players experience the beginning of the story on all compatible platforms. They will also be able to transfer their saved data to the final version of the game.
Game Overview
Rusty Rabbit is a 2.5D metroidvania action platformer created by NetEase Games and the visual novel company NITRO PLUS. It tells a personal story filled with adventure and exploration, along with exciting "smash and dash" gameplay. Players control Stamp, a rabbit living among the large ruins of a frozen world that humans have abandoned.
Meanwhile, Gen Urobuchi, who wrote PSYCHO-PASS, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Netflix's Godzilla trilogy, created Rusty Rabbit's original concept and screenplay.
The game's story goes like this. Thousands of years after humans left Earth, rabbits became the new inhabitants. Stamp is an old and quirky rabbit who lives on a planet once abandoned by humans. He spends his time piloting his mech, called "Junkster," collecting junk from the ruins of this cold world and fixing machines. One day, Stamp crashes into the lower levels of the planet. There, he discovers D-TAM, which are terminals that store information. Using D-TAM, he finds details about his missing daughter and learns a hidden truth about their world. This marks the beginning of his journey as he explores the ruins to uncover the mysteries of their world.
Further, here are some key features that players can expect.
RPG-like character progression and customization. Upgrade your mech using parts and materials you find in the ruins. Defeat enemies that guard treasure to make Stamp stronger.
A "Smash and Dash" gameplay. Use your mech's quick speed and agility to navigate through maze-like ruins. Move fast and collect any treasures you find.
An original and unique storyline. This action-adventure side scroller features a unique storyline created by acclaimed anime writer Gen Urobuchi.
