Globe recently hit 96.13% mobile coverage across the Philippines, making internet connectivity available in disadvantaged areas.
Over 106 million individuals, as per the tally of the 2020 population census, are depending on Globe's mobile network signals for calls, internet, and messaging. Nonetheless, 4.2 million Filipinos still have no network coverage, especially in hard-to-reach areas. They live in remote towns on sparsely populated islands, or in those mountainous provinces, or far flung, where geography and the lack of basic infrastructure like power make digital infrastructure impossible to install.
Joel Agustin, SVP for Network Planning and Engineering at Globe, stated:
There is still much work to be done to bring quality connectivity to every Filipino. Globe remains fully committed to making it happen.
According to Globe, they plan to increase their population coverage with continuous cell site builds because every step increases access to important services and opportunities. The telco invested 56.2 PHP billion in capital expenditures in 2024. Building more than 1,200 new cell sites, upgrading over 4,600 to LTE, and installing over 600 5G sites took up most of that.
These network upgrades by Globe increased their mobile coverage to virtually full in Metro Manila and 97% in major Visayas and Mindanao cities.
Globe prioritizes underserved, inaccessible places. These are currently the telco's expansion priorities. Because consistent mobile signals can lead to education, livelihood, and economic development in many of these communities, the goal is a deeper impact, not just a wider reach.
Agustin added:
We remain targeted and strategic in our network builds, focused on enabling and uplifting the lives of more Filipinos, and contributing to national development.
Moreover, Globe employs solar-powered and off-grid towers to reach communities without electricity. The company also works with municipal governments to expedite permitting and community collaboration.
